LUNIERE City Guides

Venice

From peaceful mornings to misty, mysterious nights, water softens Venice - giving the city a quiet, almost gentle beauty.

Light reflects off the canals, footsteps echo through narrow streets. There is no need to rush. The city reveals itself slowly: in details, in texture, in time, shaped by a long tradition of art and craftsmanship.

An hour away by boat, Burano feels brighter. More open, more vibrant. A place to wander without direction, where colour and craft sit side by side.

This guide brings together places we were drawn to - for quiet moments, for craftsmanship, for slow wandering.

Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca’ d’Oro

See

Peggy Guggenheim Collection
A modern art museum set inside Peggy Guggenheim’s former home. Expect an intimate setting, a sculpture garden by the canal, and works from artists like Picasso and Kandinsky. Easy to move through and a calm break from the city.

Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca’ d’Oro
Understated and intricate. The architecture holds as much presence as the collection itself.

Fondazione Querini Stampalia (Carlo Scarpa)
A small museum and library redesigned by Scarpa. The highlight is how water flows through the building during high tide. Best for those interested in architecture, detailing, and quiet spaces.

Gallerie dell’Accademia
Venice’s main art museum. Houses important Venetian masters like Titian and Veronese. Larger and more traditional: best if you want a deeper overview of art history.

Shop

Fortuny
A house known for its rich, textured fabrics and pleated designs. Timeless pieces rooted in Venetian craft.

Fabris
A quiet stop for traditional Venetian lace. Delicate, intricate, and made to last: ideal if you’re looking for something small but meaningful.

Fantuzzi
Handmade hair accessories with a simple, understated elegance.

Libreria Acqua Alta
A bookstore unlike any other. Books stacked in bathtubs and gondolas to protect them from flooding. Slightly chaotic, but charming.

Eat

Pasticceria Tonolo
A local favourite for breakfast. Coffee at the counter and classic Italian pastries: simple, quick, and part of the city’s everyday rhythm. It can get hectic during peak hours, so it’s best to step inside and dine at the counter rather than queuing for takeaway. The custard-filled fritters are a must.

Harry’s Bar
The birthplace of carpaccio and the Bellini. A historic Venetian bar known for its classic, understated atmosphere. Best to stop by for a drink and experience a piece of the city’s history.

Trattoria al Gatto Nero
A well-known spot on the Bunaro island, especially for seafood and risotto. Lively but still grounded in tradition.

Ristorante Da Primo
A relaxed, local spot away from the main crowds. Known for simple Venetian dishes, especially seafood, with a warm and unpretentious atmosphere.
